What is the process for volunteering? First you should contact us then you will be asked to complete/submit the Application Form. Once we receive the form you will be scheduled for an interview. After the interview, your volunteering is now ready to start. Web Assistant – Community Development Assist the Community Development department with updating their web site for ease of citizen use. Help break down planning department language into lay terms that anyone can understand and post the information in an organized and user-friendly manner. Basic web software and interface knowledge is important.
Library Book Sales Loaders/Assistants Help the Friends of the San Rafael Public Library raise money for new books and materials. This is a job that requires lifting and moving boxes of books around. It may also involve sales and other activities if interested. Great for responsible teens and people who love books. Get the first crack at book sales before the crowds!
Teen Library Volunteers Assist the Teen Librarian and Webmaster with various tasks in the library related to books and other materials, the teen web interface and various other tasks. Teen Librarian willing to craft positions that match teens interested in Library activities.
Police Boat Volunteer Ride the Bay on the Mission City, San Rafael’s police boat, doing enforcement work with our Police Ranger. This is hearty work and requires a full background check. There is a lot of training involved. You will need to be a good swimmer, and be willing to follow orders from the police ranger. This is serious yet fun, rewarding work. It requires a year commitment and 16 hours per month.
Emergency Preparedness Intern Part-time unpaid internship position to contact local non-profit organizations regarding services they may require in the event of a disaster. Ideally, this volunteer would have an interest in the Emergency Services field, be thorough in research and in follow-up activities. Minimum 4 month commitment.
Litter Education Outreach
Presenter Teach Internet skills including e-mail, websites and search engines on a one-on-one basis. Thorough knowledge of PC’s, specifically the Information Superhighway is required as well as a six month commitment. Day or evening flexible hours. Tutoring will be held at San Rafael Public Library on 5th Avenue
Clean Campaign Ambassador Work with San Rafael Clean Campaign at various cleanup events and with outreach to schools and the community to educate about the hazards of litter and benefits of recycling. Various days, times, skill requirements available |
